GEOTHERMAL AIR CONDITIONING

Underground, the temperature is always constant, around 15°C, thanks to the heat that comes from the Earth's deep layers. It's called geothermal energy; it's clean, endless, and available to everyone, making it a good source of heating and cooling for homes.

You need to install something similar to piping, a channeling circuit that collects all the heat and transfers it to the rooms in the home. Ideally, for a perfect installation, it should be done before the home is built. There are two ways to do this:

– Vertical geothermal: a survey is carried out at a depth of between 80 and 150 m, where the pipelines are lowered vertically.
– Horizontal geothermal: This becomes a kind of mesh that is distributed parallel to the surface along the length of the building.

HOW HEAT IS EXCHANGED WITH GEOTHERMAL AIR CONDITIONING

The essential element that plays an important role in this installation is the heat pump, which must be very energy-efficient. Its main purpose is to move the heat obtained from the subsoil or from the rooms.

The process is very similar to how a refrigerator works. The system works to extract heat from the refrigerated compartments and lower the temperature. In geothermal energy, the pump expels all the heat when the room needs to be cooled or introduces it when the temperature needs to be raised. This process is much more efficient, as this exchange does not take place in the air.

The temperature in the subsoil is stable at around 15°C. When it's very hot in homes, the pump transfers it to the circuit, where it uses the ground as a climate sink. On the other hand, when the temperature is very low, it distributes the heat coming from the subsoil through a radiant floor system.

SPACE FOR AIR CONDITIONING AND ITS INSTALLATION

To install it without any problems or inconveniences, you should know that it depends on the size of the building, the machine room where the pump is installed, and the control circuits, which can occupy between 3 and 8 square meters. The space and cost are quite considerable; that is, the installation of geothermal air conditioning will depend greatly on the size of the house.

According to HVAC experts, this installation can save up to 751 TP3T on a home's energy bill, meaning it could be paid off in a maximum of 5 years.

The lifespan of these heat pumps is about 20 years, compared to 50 years for other materials used. Therefore, one of the advantages of installing geothermal air conditioning is that it is environmentally friendly, as it produces virtually no CO2; for every 1 kW of electricity consumed, 4 kW of clean energy is generated.
